Effects of Binge Drinking on Your Education

It doesn’t matter they type of learning environment you chose to get your degree from while in college, there are certain situations that all students will face. When students reach their college age, they are experimenting with their new freedom and finding out who they are and what they like to do. For many this involves an endless parade of parties. Some think that all they have to do is find the healthy balance between their school work and their partying, but their partying can actually take a toll on their body without them realizing it. This article will look at the increasingly alarming problem that is binge drinking. It is important that parent and students understand the implications that it can have on your education and on life.

First of all, it shouldn’t be a surprise that excessive drinking has a negative effect on a student’s grades. Parents are often surprised when their straight “a” student is suddenly getting far worse grades in school. Yes, you might see them suffer a little bit as they learn to balance a social life with their new obligations and commitments. However if you are seeing that they are struggling across the board there might be other things influencing the bad grades. Some students go to school having experiencing partying in high school and some do not. Therefore some may be a little more equipped than others. I am in no way condoning underage drinking, but it is something that we should be honest about.

Research shows that when a student is involved in binge drinking that they may experience black outs and memory loss. This memory loss can cause you to forget things that you may have learned in classes or in your studying. Even more alarming, is that this memory loss and black out behavior can cause you to forget about things that you do when you are actually drinking. This then puts you in physical harm from yourself and others. Alcohol related accidents, physical assault, and even death are all things that can occur when someone has too much to drink. Drinking can also be related to suicide. It is a depressant and leaves the individual to not think as clearly as they would if they were not drinking at all. Continue Reading

This article will look at the history of nursing education. It will look into the past and chart the journey that it has made till now.

Most early nursing records and achievements can be linked to Clara Barton. During the Civil War she quickly learned that she had to get things organized and get herself to the battlefield to help the wounded. Due to her efforts, there was a recognition that the medical world needed to be a little more organized in order to effectively help patients.

Soon word spread of the advancements and Congress authorized the founding of the Army Nurse Cops in 1901. This was the first time in history that we were able to have accounts of nurses being in a group that would train them and teach them the tools they would need to better assist soldiers with their battle wounds. This was also the first time that we see training in the prevention of diseases. This whole movement started the ball rolling on the advancements that we have in place today.
