Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities
If you are entering into a Bachelor’s program and considering a degree in the humanities, it may be because of the flexibility this degree provides. Not only are you able to explore a vast field that encompasses many areas surrounding what you are, a human, but you can then focus in on one of these areas that most interests you.
Areas within the Humanities
Some of the areas within the field of humanities are vague. One example, literature, allows the student to explore written works throughout history. Pieces of writing can be analyzed to reveal information about an individual, a group of people, a culture, or even an entire period of time. Studying text in this way gives us clues to the past and insight into the present.
When you have selected your major within the humanities, you may not even realize you are focusing on a subcategory of this overarching field. Music majors, for instance, might always be aware that they are going to focus on music, but not know that music is a component of the humanities.
